BOOM! Studios have a great line-up of Comic Books ranging from Adventure Time to WWE, but the Comic that has people talking right now is Something is Killing the Children.
Written by James Tynion IV, a well-known writer for his work in DC’s Batman, and including another BOOM! Studios book “The Woods“. Today we’re going to be reviewing this newly released Horror Book that has already clinched the 4th Printing spot for the Publisher.
WHAT IS ABDUCTING THE CHILDREN OF ARCHER’S PEAK?
When the children in a sleepy Wisconsin town begin to go missing, all hope seems lost. Most children never return, and those that do have terrible stories of terrifying creatures that live in the shadows. But even monsters fear the mysterious stranger that arrives shortly after. She believes the children and claims to be the only who sees what they can see…
Her name is Erica Slaughter. She kills monsters. This is all she does, and she bears the cost because it must be done.
The beginning of the book began as your typical sleepover until it took a turn for the worse. James does a terrific job of getting the atmosphere of fear and terror in the beginning, it isn’t forced, nothing too trivial it gets right to the point. Another thing that works for this book is that it involves a small group of characters, but we get more of a chance to look at the world around them and what lurks in the woods.
Another thing that works well for the book is the artwork of an Artist named Werther Dell’Edera, Werther has done work for both DC and Marvel so fans already know of Werther’s sense of style, his pencil work does well of blending in with James’ Script, bringing it to life and the duo does not have the engagement of horror simply for shock value. One thing I can assure you is that this Comic does switch things up a lot, puts you on guard and makes the reader get on edge.
