We will see the return of Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle on Friday, January 18th and guaranteed by the creative team it would be even more intense than the first season. This new season introduces one of Frank Castle’s deadliest foes, Jigsaw.
Playing the role of Billy Russo, better known as Jigsaw (NO, NO, a different serial killer, not the one from SAW) will be Ben Barnes (Westworld, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Seventh Son). If you recall from the end of season one, Russo is trying to put back together his memories after suffering severe head trauma. But he will remember some things about Frank Castle, so that will drive their conflict as the second season moves along.
The Punisher is rumored to be next on the chopping block for Netflix, who have canceled previous Marvel shows such as Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Daredevil. If Punisher was canceled it would leave Jessica Jones as the lone Marvel show on Netflix. According to a Netflix spokesperson who spoke to Newsweek, the streaming company was proud of the accomplishments the show Daredevil has made, also praising the staff and cast involved in the television series.
The Punisher was created by writer Gerry Conway, and artists John Romita Sr. and Ross Andru. Frank Castle made his debut in Marvel’s The Amazing Spider-Man #129 (cover-dated February 1974), originally depicted as an assassin and adversary of the superhero Spider-Man. Punisher would become one of Marvel’s most popular characters, making numerous appearances in Marvel’s Comics, including in Frank Miller’s acclaimed run on Daredevil. Punisher would get his own Comic Book Series, and it inspired three movie adaptions, a Television Series, and two video games.
