There are plenty of well-known figures in the Video Game Industry but Reggie Fils-Aime was one of the most memorable amongst video gamers, his career beginning in the Gamecube era, Reggie came onto the scene of e3 in May 2004 quickly gaining a cult following with an unforgettable opening line “My name is Reggie. I’m about kickin’ ass, I’m about takin’ names, and we’re about makin’ games.” His theatrics and his energetic personality was a fresh and new take on Nintendo, even though they already had a Conservative image. In 2006, Reggie became President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America, taking over the position from former President Tatsumi Kimishima who went onto becoming the Chief Executive Officier and Chairman of the Board.

Later on, gamers would give Reggie a nickname that followed him from then on, Regginator, he was responsible for revamping Nintendo’s public relations in North America, many would dub his appearance as the “Reggielution” (Which was a clever nod to Nintendo’s code name for the Wii, Revolution).

As we move forward to today, Reggie released a statement announcing his retirement from Nintendo of America and an video on Twitter:

Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever. It’s a part that is filled with gratitude – for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community. As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humor, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘leveling up’ to more time with my wife, family and friends.
